Introduction and Application Fields of Various Hydrogenated Hydrocarbon Resins

Petroleum-Based Resin (Petroleum Resin, C5/C9 Resin, Hydrocarbon Resin):
Petroleum resin (also known as aliphatic/aromatic hydrocarbon resin).Derived from petroleum cracking byproducts (C5 and C9 fractions), this thermoplastic oligomer (MW: 300–3000) is produced through pretreatment, polymerization, and distillation.
Hydrogenated Petroleum Resin (Hydrogenated C5/C9 Resin, Saturated Hydrocarbon Resin):Produced by hydrogenating petroleum resin, converting unsaturated hydrocarbons into saturated ones, enhancing color stability, odor reduction, and weather resistance.
Main types: C5 hydrogenated resin , C9 hydrogenated resin and DCPD Hydrogenated Resin
C5 Hydrogenated Hydrocarbon Resin (Aliphatic Hydrogenated Resin)
Feedstock: C5 fraction from ethylene cracking.
Synthesis: Cationic polymerization of dienes and mono-olefins.
Key Properties:
Density: ~1.0 g/cm³
Solubility: Dissolves in benzene, toluene, xylene, and solvent oils; insoluble in water.
Appearance: White/yellow granular solid, brittle, low dust, non-toxic, odorless, non-flammable (eco-friendly).
Advantages:
Superior tackifying performance, polymer compatibility, thermal/UV stability.
Enhances adhesive bonding strength in hot-melt adhesives (HMA) and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA).
Applications:
Adhesives: HMA, PSA, bookbinding adhesives, packaging adhesives.
